I would like to sinc music to my Palm TX from my home computer.  My Palm software is installed on my work computer and I sinc with my Outlook at work.  Can I install the software on my home computer to sinc music with windows media player without setting up the software to also sinc with my outlook computer at home.  Also a home I use Vista and at work I use XP.   I also tried putting in the memory card into a scan disk, but I can t seem to copy the music to scan disk device.

I have a palm pre and for some reason I cannot sync my palm to windows media player. The device shows that there is music on my phone but I cannot access it. I have tried to drag files from WMP directly, tried to drag from Windows library on drive to no avail.

am I doing something wrong. Is WMP not recognised by palm.

I can do it with MP3 sites and itunes but these options are not readily available to me they belong to friends, can someone please help.

kellysedgeman, just a guess here, but are you sure the files you re dragging from WMP are mp3 s and not. wma files.

Windows Media Player comes defaulted to rip CD s into wma files.  You have to tell it to rip mp3 s.  WMA files aren t supported by the Pre.

the 2009 H3 Hummer comes with bluetooth and my phone connects for phone use hands free. wondering if anybody knows if there s an application or setting to play MP3s on the phone through bluetooth to the speakers in the H3. Thanks.

Also, here s my Wifi Hotsync text file I compiled:

1. On your PC, locate the HotSync Manager little HotSync icon in the lower right tool tray on a Winbox. Click on it and check off Network, then click again and select Setup.

2. Pick the Network tab up top in the window that opens, and find your HotSync name in the list. Make sure it s checked.

3. Tap the TCP/IP button, and look at the IP address listed for Primary PC Address. Write it down.

4. Turn on Wifi on your Palm and connect to your router.

5. On your Palm, select the HotSync program and tap the word Network above the HotSync icon in the middle of the screen. Below it, enter the IP address you wrote down in step 3. Include the periods..

6. Tap the big HotSync icon above the IP address, and hold on.

7. If you re holding on, and nothing happens try a wired HotSync, then try the Wifi HotSync again. Sometimes, information has to transfer from your PC after you check off the Network option. Also, be sure to watch for any Firewall activity asking you about HotSync.exe is trying to access your hard drive etc. You may need to set a rule to allow it.

I ve had this same problem and when I go to the menu in Hotsync, there is no option for Modem Sync prefs, and thus no option to choose network. Do I need a newer version of Hotsync or something. the only options I see in the menu are Conduit Setup, Connection Setup, and About Hotsync. I have Hotsync v.5.0. thanks.

I realize this is an old post, but maybe he ll stop by again

HotSync version 5.0 is definitely the wrong version for a TX.

You must have upgraded from another unit, and synced all the old information to it correct.

I have a Palm TX that I hot sync with Windows 7, 64 bit, using a Bluetooth connection.  I also have an old AutoSync v1.6 application that I have used in the past to set up scheduled hot syncs.  This worked fine when I was connected by a USB cable but doesn t work with Bluetooth.  Does anyone know who to set up AutoSync to work with Bluetooth or is there another scheduling application available.

When I look in my ring tones the icon on the right wich looks to me as a play button does not play my ring tones so I can listen to them to see if they are any good.

The mic on my Centro stopped working the other day, and i have important text messages that are in my saved folder that I need to keep /or save to my pc before I can switch phones

Heres the thing, I need to keep the dates of the messages themselves.. So forwarding is not an option. Ive tried downloading a few programs but they all seem to just be able to send messages, or are for nokia phones..

I ve tried Treodesktop.com and its a dead end. It doesnt seem to even link to a page ive tried it from more then one computer

Any suggestions I have a service with ATT and they say that they cant do anything for me in regards to transferring.. So it seem likes Im a bit SOL.. HELP.

Sincing Windows Media Player music to Palm - HP Support Forum - 2063839

Windows Media Player. Windows users can finally itunes Jon Rubinstein mobile nations Monday Brief music O2 open source Open webOS palm palmcast palm pixi palm.

Palm today announced that the Pre will sync seamlessly with iTunes. From the press release on Palm Pre iTunes sync:

Palm media sync is a feature of webOS that synchronizes seamlessly with iTunes, giving you a simple and easy way to transfer DRM-free music, photos and videos to your Palm Pre. 2 Simply connect Pre to your PC or Mac via the USB cable, select media sync on the phone, and iTunes will launch on your computer desktop. You can then choose which DRM-free media files to transfer.

Reading about this on blogs I ve seen two clueless arguments being repeated:

Palm must be doing this in co-operation with Apple.

That must be why in Palm s demo iTunes says Syncing iPod instead of Syncing Pre and Palm investor Roger McNamee called Apple a monopolist when Walt Mossberg asked how Apple is going to feel about this.

This is nothing new. RIM and Nokia have been doing iTunes sync for a while.

No, RIM and Nokia have offered their own software which reads the iTunes XML library file and syncs to their devices. That s nothing like the Palm Pre which identifies itself to a PC as an iPod and syncs with iTunes directly instead of 3rd party software.

The following is worth noting in Palm s press release:

2 Compatible with iTunes 8.1.1 on Windows XP/Vista and Mac OS X version 10.3.9-10.5.7

That s called covering your rear Translated from PR-speak we get: Don t expect this to necessarily work with iTunes 8.1.2.

So how is Palm doing this. It s pretty simple, really. We ll start with the most basic question that doesn t even involve the Pre: To a PC, what s the difference between an iPod and a Kingston memory stick. The iPod has a specific USB Vendor Id that identifies it as being an Apple product and a USB Product Id that identifies it as being a specific iPod model. In addition, the iPod s filesystem has a specific folder and file structure. Modern iPods also respond to a custom USB command that returns an XML file with information about the device.

So how has Palm most likely enabled the Pre to sync directly with iTunes. By doing the following:

When you select Media Sync on the Pre, it will switch its USB interface to use Apple s Vendor Id and the Product Id for a specific iPod model

The Pre exposes a filesystem through Mass Storage Class that mimics the structure of an iPod

The Pre responds to Apple s custom USB command and returns XML info about the device

What can Apple do about this. When two parties implement an open standard, there s usually some differences. In this case, there s two implementations of a proprietary standard and it s almost guaranteed that there will be differences. Apple will analyze the Pre and find out what those are. They will then be able to update iTunes to tell a real iPod apart from the PrePod.

Oh, and when that happens, be sure to download doubleTwist to sync your music and video to the Palm Pre

Update: some people are linking to this Apple support article, claiming that s how the Pre is able to sync with iTunes of course, these people don t actually explain the how since that would require them to know something about the subject. I didn t even bother linking to that originally since I thought nobody would be technologically inept enough to use that as an argument: 1 That article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple, 2 It applies to Mac OS X only, 3 The listed players are over half a decade old, 4 The reason those players were supported was because iTunes included CUSTOM CODE to support those players, 5 The Palm Pre s iTunes sync capability works without installing any Palm software/plugins, 6 If the Palm Pre was using an iTunes API for 3rd party devices, then iTunes would be identifying the Palm Pre as a Pre, not as an iPod.
